is exactly what Methodist people have been doing throughout the generations; it's only right that this should become the title of the successor to the many hymn collections that have gone before it.
The book has been 6 years in the making, beginning a new chapter in our journey of faith that bears witness to the power of Christian words and music.
The content selection process has been thorough, and I experienced something of the process when Andrew Pratt introduced such a session at my local church almost two years ago; the attention to detail was incredible and congregational 'sight-singing' of new songs and tunes proved both challenging and rewarding in equal measure!
The Editor-in-Chief, Peter Brophy, writes:
“Methodism was 'born in song' and our hymnbook is probably the best statement of what Methodist's believe, so a new hymnbook brings that statement up to date. The new book will cover virtually ever genre within the church, from golden oldies to the latest worship songs, including material from around the world and a good sprinkling of Taize, Iona etc;
also included are a considerable number of previously unpublished hymns, including many by living Methodists. Musically, there are well over 200 new arrangements by leading modern hymn composers, with guitar chords included for modern songs. The book will be launched at Conference this summer, with a further launch at Wesley's Chapel in September; also the BBC will be transmitting at least two 'Songs of Praise' based on it.”
So, how do we begin to experience 'Singing the Faith' for ourselves? There is a link from the NYCC Home page to further information about publication and cost and there is a full contents list available.
