Thank you to those who have signed up to indicate your interest in taking part in Bible Month 2017! As you know, the biblical book we'll be focusing on for the month is the letter of James, an epistle that challenges us to live out the faith that we confess.
This is the first of a number of occasional circulars that we'll be sending out in the lead-up to the initiative, and please do get in touch if you have any specific queries about running a Bible Month in your own church or circuit.
If you've not already spotted them, a number of resources for running or promoting Bible Month are now available on our website (www.methodist.org.uk/BibleMonth). These include;
The Bible Month magazine, which is available as a PDF at www.methodist.org.uk/prayer-and-worship/bible-month/bible-month-magazine.
The Bible Month magazine is the primary resource that you'll need for running a Bible Month in 2017, and includes bible notes for preachers, suggestions for small groups, and material for engaging children and young people.
A promotional video, that includes testimonies of people involved in the Bible Month pilot that took place in 2014. See www.methodist.org.uk/prayer-and-worship/bible-month/why-run-a-bible-month. If you've not already seen our earlier animated video explaining Bible Month, see www.methodist.org.uk/prayer-and-worship/bible-month/introducing-bible-month.
A number of you will have already signed up for one of the training days — in London, Sheffield, Plymouth and Durham — but, if not, you can find the details at www.methodist.org.uk/prayer-and-worship/bible-month/bible-month-training-days. You don't need to attend a training day to run a Bible Month, but they may be helpful for those who can make it along. We are also planning to record videos of the speakers at the Sheffield event, and will let you know when they're available to view online.
We're also planning to produce a resource to promote conversations around biblical literacy more generally — and will let you know when that resource appears too.
In the meantime, thanks again for signing up — and I wish you a very happy new year!
